As a tribute to Anna Halprin and on the occasion of her 101st birthday, Open Eye Pictures in association with the Tamalpa Institute is offering a free worldwide virtual screening of RETURNING HOME, a film more relevant and poignant in the wake of Halprin's passing on May 24th.
Dance on Camera Jury Award-winning RETURNING HOME is a visually rich dance documentary in which 80-something Halprin, pioneer of postmodern dance, uses movement as a means of connecting oneself to nature, and art to real life. As she dances along thresholds of earth, wind, water and fire, Halprin discovers lessons in loss, liberation and healing. Whether surveying the charred remains of her home, or her scars from cancer and aging, she finds beauty and meaning even in decay. A testament to the importance of honoring the human and earth bodies, this unforgettable film takes us on a mythic and personal journey home.
The screening will be followed by an interactive Q&A and conversation between the film's director Andrew Abrahams and artistic director Eeo Stubblefield who inspired the "Still Dances" in the film.
We look forward to celebrating with you Anna's birthday, her work, memories and larger than life legacy.
