The Film
Anastasia Trofimova, a Russian-Canadian filmmaker, gains unauthorized and unprecedented access to a Russian Army battalion stationed in Eastern Ukraine. Without any official clearance, she earns the trust of foot soldiers and embeds herself with the battalion near the front.
What she discovers is far from the narratives propagated by the East or West: a war cutting through family and historical ties, soldiers disillusioned and often struggling to understand what they are fighting for.
Co-produced by Raja Pictures (Canada) and Films à Cinq (France), RUSSIANS AT WAR is controversial, disruptive, and essential viewing.
